OUR HONEY PRODUCERS

For hundreds of years on the rugged and wild, ninety-nine square mile Island of Ikaria, located in the North Eastern Aegean Sea, clay vases were used for bees and gathering of honey. This was done solely for family consumption.

In the mid 1970’s, the first roads were laid down allowing the Karimalis family, five generations of beekeepers, to expand their honey gathering into a small commercial enterprise. They did this by utilizing portable wooden bee hive boxes.

Although experiencing steady moderate growth over the past four decades, the Karimalis family have maintained the same integrity and care as they did when the product was only for themselves and their extended family.

No large volume, cutting corners or vulnerable to cheap imitations here! The family continues to produce honey of the highest possible quality as they work with indigenous bees in especially unspoilt natural conditions.

Our honey that we offer to you is gathered by this authentic and passionate family with typical Ikarian spirit. We here at Almighty Honey are proud to be a part of their endeavours and to fill the role as sole distributors of Ikarian honey in all of Australia.

What does a young man do when his father, grandfather and great grand-father were all bee keepers on the pristine and rugged island of Ikaria.

He becomes the next generation of bee keeper trained by his father Antoni who teaches him everything about natural apothecary.

Antoni and his wife, Margarita, have run their successful business in Ikaria since 1995 from their Gialiskari headquarters. Now son, Lefteris, joins them to continue the legacy of a very special relationship with nature and the bees that contribute to its survival.
